Released by an artist on any secular label. All genres and sub-genres (of secular music) are welcome.
The artist must have some kind of national profile. Even if an artist works in a sub-genre, they must have a record of reviews or touring or prominence within their communities.
Please add original versions of your song, not a cover – unless it is distinctly different, like Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” and Johnny Cash’s version.
An exception is original songs that were first released by Christian or gospel music artists, but then covered by artists working in secular genres (Ex: “I Need You” by LeAnn Rimes.) However, cover versions of hymns or traditional gospel songs should not be included.
Songs should have English lyrics.
Songs should clearly reference Jesus, not just God. If they do not mention Jesus by name, it should be clear that Jesus is being referenced. Often this occurs through:
Using other clear names for Jesus (Christ, Son of Man, Emmanuel, etc.) “Son of God” or “Messiah” MAY reference Jesus, but they may not (if they are preceded by “The” it is more likely.) use you judgment.
Using clear Biblical or religious references (ex: “the man from Nazareth”, “holy carpenter”, “you turned water into wine”)
Absent these clear references, you may appeal to statements by the artist and/or a consensus from critics/fans.
